NBA Trade Deadline Update

TRADE DEADLINE RUMORS!

In just a few hours the NBA Trade deadline will pass and the
home stretch will begin.  Here is a quick update on the action
that has occurred and the latest rumors:

Chris Webber:  C-Webb was traded from the Sacramento Kings
late last night to the Philadelphia 76ers.  The Kings sent Webber,
Matt Barnes and Michael Bradley to the Sixers for Brian Skinner,
Kenny Thomas and Corliss Williamson.

The Kings were able to offload Webber and the remaining $63
million on his contract and in return the Kings got tougher and
bigger.  Williamson is the exact spark plug the Kings needed with
the season ending injury to Bobby Jackson, the Kings best
defensive player.  The front line of Williamson and Brad Miller
gives the Kings the tough defensive interior the team has lacked
for years.

Furthermore, the Kings will benefit from Webber’s trade.  Both
Peja Stojakavic and Mike Bibby will get more shots now that
Webber and his streaky midrange jumper are on the other side
of the country.

The Sixers will benefit as well as they receive a star and big man
in Webber.  Iverson has not had a true running mate and
secondary offensive threat in all his years in Philadelphia.
Iverson is sure to flourish, as more open shots will result from
opponent’s double-teaming Webber.  Webber’s ailing body will
also benefit from the lack of big men in the East.  Only Detroit
and Indiana have great power forwards that will challenge
Webber.  Unlike the West that boasts Tim Duncan, Kevin
Garnett, Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitski, Zach Randolph and Elton
Brand to name a few.

Glen Robinson, Mike James, Jiri Welsch, Jamal Mashburn and
Rodney Rogers
:  All have been moved in the past few hours.
Welsch will line up next to LeBron James in Cleveland and help
the Cavaliers’ bench that has struggled as of late.  Mike James
has left the Bucks and is headed to Houston for Reece Gaines.
And Mashburn, who may never play again because of his injured
knee, has been sent to the Sixers for the Big Dog, who has yet
to play this season.

The Latest Rumors:

Baron Davis
:  Davis, who had been at odds all season with New
Orleans’ Hornets’ head coach Byron Scott is likely headed to
Golden State for Dale Davis and his expiring contract.  The two
Davis’ salary numbers do not match and the addition of Baron to
the Warriors would create a jam at point guard.  The Warriors
will try their best to add Derek Fisher to the mix as well as one of
their three first round picks in 2005.  The Hornets may end the
day with both Big Dog and Dale Davis meaning that nearly $23
million will come off the books at the end of the season.

Ray Allen:  The biggest rumor of the day has Ray Allen being
sent to the Boston Celtics for Paul Pierce.  Allen’s contract talks
have stalled with the Seattle Supersonics and the Sonics do not
want to lose Allen without gaining anything.  The Celtics must
believe they have a better chance of signing a long-term deal
with Allen to make this move.  One other rumor has Allen headed
to Philadelphia to join Iverson and Webber.

Michael Redd:  While Redd is unlikely to go anywhere the two
rumors surrounding Redd have him headed to either Cleveland
or Portland.  If Portland is the destination Redd and Keith Van
Horn would be traded for Shareef Abdur-Rahim.  And if Cleveland
becomes Redd’s new home the cost will be Drew Gooden and
draft picks.
