NFL News: Terrell Owens Catches Nicollette Sheridan

The hypocrisy surrounding Terrell Owens spot with Nicollette
Sheridan on Monday night must end. The fact that this spot is
being reviewed and investigated by the FCC using our tax dollars
is a joke. And Owens, who has been in the wrong so many times
in recent weeks, is finally right with not seeing what the big fuss
is all about.

So far everyone connected with the 30-second bit, sans Sheridan,
has come forward with an explanation and an apology.
Furthermore, Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy threw gasoline
at the 30 second bit by pointing out a baseless racist claim and
how the commercial re-hatched the Kobe Bryant rape case.

Michael Powell and the FCC were next to act by stating that an
investigation into who knew what when had begun. Fresh off ‘Nip
Slip’ gate where Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction caused the
largest TiVo reaction in history and a $500,000 fine, Powell is back
looking at the NFL from Monday night’s skit.

Powell has been a busy man as of late, protecting children and
the sensitive from the vile and disgusting, better known as the
human body. Powell’s stealth and determination has allowed him
to see the true horror that faces our society, a woman’s bare
upper back.

One must assume that Powell does have TiVo and therefore must
skip the non-stop erection dysfunctional commercials put on every
break by Viagra, Cialis and the rest. Powell must also miss all
Herbal Essence’s commercials that compare using the soap to a
Woman’s orgasm, noises included.

But it is more likely that Powell does not watch television, only
fines it. In fact he must not know much about the NFL. Powell
must be unaware that the NFL is the 21st centuries gladiators.
Men running at one another at full speed and full impact to create
violence on live T.V. With Women wearing as little at possible,
dancing the bump and grind that we refer to as Cheerleading.

It is a hypocrisy that allows the violence and slutty dance to be
part of our American norm, while a bare upper back must be
fined. It is the Emperor wearing no clothes all over again.

And it is about consistency.

Terrell Owens flirts with an attractive barebacked woman and get
your checkbooks ready. Yet Terrell Owens makes several
homophobic comments on live television about Jeff Garcia and
Powell is nowhere to be found.

The danger we all face is in this unclear distinction between
offensive and societal norm. By FCC standards, skin is clearly not
ok. But racial and sexual classifications are. Rush Limbaugh was
not fined for his racially charged comments about Donovan
McNabb, as T.O. was not fined after his homophobic comments
regarding Garcia.

Put down a race on live, national television and don’t look over
your shoulder for the government censorship bureau. Its ok.
Jimmy the Greek an entire segment of people and you may lose
your job, but don’t worry about censorship. Mike Tyson it and talk
about eating one’s children and that is fine and dandy.

But watch out, there is a naked upper back over there and who is
going to protect our children now.
