Why You Can Be A Published
Sports Writer

Utter optimism from a traditionalist…

My articles often take a familiar path.  I explain a situation.  I
explain the rule.  I explain the deviation from the rule and then
propose a solution.

My goal is to make the complexity of sports simpler.  My goal is to
reach the intelligent sports fan that desires to know why their
favorite team, their favorite league or their favorite player acted
in such a manner.

These ambitions come from the greatness that is sport.  We tell
stories to one another of the highlights we witness and the
greatness we see.  I often tell of Barry Bonds.  Bostonians often
speak of Ted Williams.  The story is as follows.

Williams is asked how he recognizes what pitch a pitcher is
throwing.  Williams simply responds, I look at the rotation of the
stitches to see what pitch has been thrown and I adjust
accordingly.

And Bonds’, asked the same, replies, I look at the pitcher last.  I
walk to the plate knowing what pitches the pitcher has.  I first
look at the outfielders and wait to see if they shift, even just an
inch.  I then look to the shortstop and second baseman (with the
Bonds’ shift it is often the shortstop and third baseman) to see if
they lean even an inch.  Any slight movement of those players
will tip the pitch.  I finally look at the pitcher’s hand as he is
releasing the ball.

Two of the greatest hitters ever doing the impossible, seeing
what others cannot.  It is Michael Jordan understanding the Zen
of the basketball court.  Jerry Rice running the perfect route every
time.  It is Joe Montana never throwing an interception in a Super
Bowl.  It is what makes all of us love sports.

With that a call to arms or to pens has been made.  It is time for
all of us who have dreamt of sharing our sports thoughts to do
so.  Legalball.com is giving you the opportunity to do that.

Write an article 500 to 700 words in length about WHY something
happens in sports and Legalball.com will be happy to publish it.

As John Howard Jr. from Berkeley shared his thoughts on Mike
Tyson and media bias, Boston Ben Starr considers the ever-
weakening NCAA, and as psychology Q Schindlar describes the
mental ailments of a choke, Legalball.com challenges you to
share your views.
